Date Circa 1630

A good early 17th Century armchair.

The boldly carved back panel with a large central Tudor rose surrounded by four stylised daisies, the shaped crest carved with scrolls and a Guilloche strapwork pattern. A very sturdy and solid chair of a fabulous colour and burnished surface, having the original two-piece seat. In excellent condition, being well up on its feet and retaining all the original stretchers and pegs, having a couple of small historic repairs to the seat and a piece of wood overlaying the bottom of the panel.

A great example of a chair from the early 17th Century, Circa 1630

Seat height of 52 cm.

A chair with a very similar back panel described as ''powerful'' is illustrated on page 61, plate 43 in Tobias Jellinek''s book ''Early British Chairs and Seats 1500 To 1700''.
