Antique Edwardian Mahogany Urn Stand with Slide c.1905
A refined Edwardian mahogany urn stand in the Chippendale Revival taste. The square top has a scalloped gallery echoing mid-18th-century rococo design, set above a shaped apron, all raised on four slender, tapering legs. A small pull-out slide with brass ring handle extends from beneath the top, a vestige of the Georgian tea-service tradition from which this design descends.
Light, graceful and impeccably balanced, this stand embodies the Edwardian fondness for reviving Georgian forms with delicacy and restraint. The pull-out slide nods to its original function as an urn or kettle stand.
Presented in very good antique condition with a rich, even patina and only light surface wear consistent with age including some little nibbles to the feet. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1905.
