An outstanding quality Victorian burr walnut card table beautifully proportioned and richly figured throughout. The serpentine fold-over top is veneered in exceptional burr walnut with a finely moulded edge opening to reveal a green baize playing surface.

The table is raised on an impressive carved basket-form base with boldly scrolled supports terminating in elegant cabriole feet retaining their original ceramic castors. The depth and crispness of the carving, combined with the quality of the burr walnut veneers place this firmly in the higher tier of mid-19th-century English furniture.

A particularly decorative and practical example, equally suitable as a card table, games table, console table or statement occasional piece.

Condition

Excellent antique condition throughout. The burr walnut veneers are of superb colour and figure with a pleasing surface patina. The mechanism opens and closes smoothly, the base is solid and stable, and the carving remains sharp and well defined. Minor age-related wear consistent with use, as expected.
