A charming antique Staffordshire pottery figure depicting the infamous English highwayman Dick Turpin mounted on horseback. The figure shows Turpin wearing a blue coat and tricorn hat seated upon a black horse standing on a naturalistic base, with the name Dick Turpin painted to the front.

The piece is attractively hand painted in traditional Staffordshire colours with a cobalt blue coat, yellow saddle blanket and green mound base. Figures depicting historical characters such as Dick Turpin were popular decorative ornaments during the 19th century and are now highly collectable.

The reverse is hollow in the typical Staffordshire manner and the figure retains a lovely period look with hand painted details and characterful modelling.

A decorative and evocative example of English pottery portraying one of the most legendary highwaymen of the 18th century.

Condition
Good antique condition with age related wear and minor losses to the painted decoration consistent with age. No major restoration observed.
