Arts & Crafts Style Utility CC41 Elm and Beech Desk Chair 1940’s
A striking 1940’s desk chair crafted in solid elm and beech with clear Arts and Crafts influence. The generously shaped elm seat is deeply grained and well-figured, supporting a curved backrest with sculptural elm arms and bold, turned beech supports, all raised on finely turned beech legs with squat ball feet and a robust stretcher arrangement.
Designed under wartime restrictions but made with particular care and craftsmanship, this is far superior to standard issue CC41 furniture. The proportions, shaping and weight give it a presence more akin to vernacular or early 20th century Arts and Crafts chairs than mass-produced Utility seating.
Presented in very good vintage condition with a rich patina and minor surface wear consistent with age. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1940’s.
