A superb quality inlaid mahogany bookcase by Edwards and Roberts of London. Of fine construction in a dense grade of solid mahogany, with attractive flame mahogany veneers. Embellished with inlaid detailing in satinwood, boxwood and tulipwood throughout. With 3 glazed doors above 3 cupboard doors (all doors lockable, keys supplied). The glazed doors open to access interiors with adjustable shelving. The cupboard doors open to reveal further storage with shelving. All surmounted by an over-sailing cornice with greek key moldings. Offered for sale in excellent original condition. With a mellow colour and deep patina acquired over the years. Splits into 4 sections for ease of installation.

Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp. Edwards & Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu.
