George III Oak Bureau Bookcase
A fine George III period oak bureau bookcase, c.1780, of elegant proportions and good colour. The upper section features a moulded swan-neck pediment with central shell inlay and decorative roundels, above a pair of astragal-glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelving. The fall front opens to reveal a fitted interior with small drawers, pigeonholes, and a central cupboard, offering both practicality and charm. Below, four graduated long drawers with brass swan-neck handles rest on shaped bracket feet. A classic example of late 18th century craftsmanship combining display and writing functions in one refined piece.
