A very good set of Scottish mid-Victorian period dining chairs by Wylie & Lochhead of Glasgow. Of fine construction in solid mahogany with well upholstered seats. With balloon backs and turned front legs. Each chair bearing the makers stamp to the underside. They are of generous proportions, strong and sturdy. Offered for sale in very good original condition, with a good colour and patina, ready to go straight into the home.

Wylie & Lochhead was a prestigious Glasgow firm, founded 1829 by Robert Wylie & William Lochhead, known for cabinetmaking, furnishing, and funeral services, becoming Scotland's largest cabinetmaker by the 1890s, pioneering Scottish design (like Art Nouveau), holding a Royal Warrant, and eventually becoming part of House of Fraser in 1957, with its archives preserved by the University of Glasgow and the House of Fraser Archive.
