Set of Four Antique Georgian Chippendale Mahogany Dining Chairs c.1780
A set of four Georgian mahogany dining chairs in the Chippendale style, each finely constructed with a shaped crest rail above a pierced interlacing splat, over a drop-in seat and square subtly chamfered legs united by an arrangement of stretchers. The seat rails are detailed with a fine incised moulded edge, and the mahogany shows the depth of colour and close grain associated with fine 18th-century timber.
With excellent character and a warm, natural patina built from centuries of use, the restrained Chippendale-influenced design ensures timeless versatility. As a group of four they form an elegant small dining set, but are equally well suited as side chairs in a hall, study or bedroom.
Presented in very good antique condition, with expected minor wear to edges and old surface marks, all consistent with genuine age. The joints are sound, hand-cut mortice and tenon, with mostly original corner blocks, some later replacements. The drop-in seats are covered in plain calico, ready for re-upholstery if desired, though serviceable as they stand. Structurally all in good order, clean and ready to place.
Price is for set of four chairs.
