Description
This is a very attractive Caucasian Soumakh carpet with real character dating from around 1920.
The flat weave carpet is handwoven in soft wool and features typical Caucasian design with three linked central medallions and a wealth of stylised geometric motifs to the surrounding octogans, all enclosed within triple borders.
The colour palette the weaver has chosen for this carpet is vibrant and well balanced with a warm orange red, deep indigo, yellow ochre and ivory all playing their part.
This is in good order for its age and brings a great deal of colour and character to any setting. The carpet measures 248 cms by 150 cms.
