This stunning antique bureau is likely an Anglo-Chinese or Chinoiserie piece (European furniture with Chinese style decoration) made in the late 19th or early 20th century for the Western market. it is heavily carved with dragons on both sides and the whole front, the drop leaf , has 2 drawers in also carved and the inside sides also have been carved the draws slide freely, the lower part of the bureau has 2 drawers both slide freely, with the bottom one being double deep. The open hatch upstand has carvings on the lower half with a shelf, the upper part has a crest with the motto with dragons either side,
"Celer et certa" is Latin phrase that translates to "swift and certain" or "quick and sure,
This makes it a strange piece as the crest is similar to Pugins wall mounts from the gothic revival, or was it made for an important family back in the Victorian times.
This bureau is a rare piece of furniture, with so much history and so many stories it could tell, with so many more to tell .
