See shipping detailsA superb antique Georgian mahogany lowboy of elegant proportions, raised on square tapering legs with refined, understated lines typical of the period.
The top displays a rich, warm colour with attractive figuring to the mahogany. The front is fitted with a long central drawer flanked by two smaller drawers, all retaining their original brass handles and escutcheon. The drawers are well constructed with hand cut dovetail joints, a clear sign of traditional craftsmanship.
Lowboys were originally designed as dressing tables, the term referring to their lower height compared to the taller “highboy” or chest on stand. They were commonly used in bedrooms for holding mirrors, cosmetics and personal items. Over time their practical size and proportions have made them highly versatile pieces.
Today this example would work beautifully as a hall table, small desk or side table, with the shaped kneehole allowing comfortable seating if used for writing.
A highly useful and decorative piece with excellent proportions.
