Antique Gillows George III Mahogany Console Hall Card Table Reeded Legs Fold Over Top
Description
An antique George III Gillows stamped mahogany console hall card table of excellent quality featuring a fold over top and elegant reeded legs.
A refined and well proportioned example, the top opening to reveal a green baize playing surface, a practical design used in the 18th century for card games and social entertaining. When closed the table presents beautifully as a slim console or hall table making it both decorative and highly versatile.
The frieze is detailed with subtle panel work while the reeded legs add a sense of lightness and classical proportion. The quality of the mahogany is particularly good showing a rich colour and fine figuring throughout.
The Gillows stamp elevates this piece significantly, as Gillows of Lancaster were among the finest cabinet makers of the period, known for their craftsmanship and elegant restrained designs. Pieces bearing their mark are increasingly sought after by collectors and interior designers.
A highly desirable and usable antique table combining practicality elegance and strong maker attribution.
Condition report
Very good antique condition with age related wear, marks and surface patina in keeping with age and use. The baize is in good order for its age and the table is solid and ready for use.
