A superb antique Regency rosewood tea caddy, beautifully veneered in the finest figured rosewood and exquisitely decorated with delicate brass line inlay. This elegant example dates from around 1830 and retains its original fitted interior complete with the original cut glass mixing bowl, making it an increasingly scarce and highly collectable piece.

Tea caddies were an essential feature of affluent Regency households, designed to securely store valuable tea under lock and key. The twin removable tea caddies were traditionally used to keep black and green teas separate, whilst the original cut glass mixing bowl in the centre allowed the owner to blend the teas to their preferred taste before brewing.

The wonderfully figured rosewood veneers are beautifully book-matched and enhanced by crisp brass stringing, creating a striking contrast that reflects the quality of Regency cabinet making. The caddy is further enhanced by its original lion's mask ring carrying handles, working lock and key, all adding to its authenticity and desirability.

Condition Report: Presented in excellent antique condition with a rich colour and superb patina. The rosewood veneers retain their beautiful figuring with only very minor signs of age and use. Complete with the original fitted interior, both original tea caddies, the original cut glass mixing bowl, original lion's mask ring handles and a working lock with key.
