Antique Victorian Quality Carved Mahogany Torchere Plant Stand Pedestal Column
Description
A fine quality antique Victorian carved mahogany torchere of elegant proportions. Standing on a substantial circular platform base raised on three boldly carved lion paw feet, the turned column is beautifully detailed with a carved fluted urn-shaped knop and supports a circular dished top with finely carved bead moulded edge.
Originally designed as a torchere to display a decorative vase, bust or sculpture, these pieces are equally at home today as plant stands, lamp stands or elegant hall pedestals. The rich mahogany timber has developed a wonderful deep colour and patina over the years.
A particularly good example with excellent carving and a strong decorative presence. The quality of the carving to the base, lion paw feet and turned column places this above many examples found on the market.
Condition Report
Presented in good antique condition with minor age-related wear, marks and patina consistent with age and use. A strong and sturdy example.
