Description
This finely woven Mauri Turkman silk prayer rug from North West Afghanistan dates from the early 20th century. ''Mauri'' rugs are destinctive for being extremely finely knotted, the Mauri weavers being descended from the Tekke, Yamoud and Saruq tribes on the silk route. This very pretty prayer rug has a raspberry field with an urn issuing flowers surrounded by blossoming trees and floral borders in deep indigo and warm ivory. The rug is in very good order with a good pile throughout. It is a good size, measuring 180 cms by 118 cms.
