George IV Circular 8 Seater Rosewood Dining Table
Early 19th century Regency rosewood circular centre dining table.
The 5ft diameter table will seat 8 people and is made with rosewood book matched veneers. The top is highly figured retaining aged patina and a mellow, golden rosewood colour. The inner crossbanding is tulip wood and the wider outer crossbanding is yew wood with lively rosewood bandings above a shallow frieze that is made with vertical rosewood cut veneers and a repeated crossbanded yew wood banding.
The detachable tilt-top table is fitted onto the original saddle and retains gilt brass bolts that fix the table top in place above an elegant tapered and turned central rosewood column. The column base is crisply carved with stiff acanthus leaf decoration above a shallow carved 'Egg & Dart' collar that stands on a well figured rosewood plate-form base raised on large bun feet that retain the original gilt brass concealed castors.
