This Ladies & Gents Pair of 19thC ‘Old Saxon’ Turned Chairs would make a bold statement wherever they were placed. The triangular shape of the chairs, combine perfectly with the geometric carving design in the back rail. The turned legs are of very generous proportions and work so well with the ring turned arms.

A well-documented design, and usually associated with the well known Victorian chairmaker, John Starkey, and indeed one of his chairs is held at the V&A Museum. They are a Victorian reproduction of a notable 17thC turned chair from Lord Leycester’s Hospital in Warwick. Underneath one of the chairs there is the trade label for Everitt Jackson, Kenilworth, Antique Dealer, noting the design from Leycester’s Hospital.

With one of these chairs larger than the other, we can assume they were made in the His & Hers style, so popular in the Victorian era. The chairs both display a wonderful patina, and would make a real talking point whenever viewed.
