Outstanding Quality Antique French Victorian Hand-Painted Porcelain Urn Mantel Clock
Description
An outstanding quality French porcelain mantel clock of elegant urn form, richly decorated with finely hand-painted floral garlands of pink roses and foliage, set against a crisp white ground. The porcelain body is beautifully complemented by deep cobalt blue reserves and lavish gilt bronze mounts, creating a striking and refined contrast typical of high-quality French decorative work of the Victorian period.
The clock is of tall, architectural proportions, surmounted by a domed lid with gilt finial, and raised on a stepped base with further gilt detailing. The circular enamel dial is framed by an ornate gilt bezel and fitted with delicately pierced gilt hands, with clear Roman numerals. The movement is housed within the porcelain body and accessed via the rear.
This is a particularly decorative and well-balanced piece, displaying excellent craftsmanship and strong visual presence, well suited to a mantel, console or display setting. The quality of the porcelain painting, combined with the substantial gilt bronze mounts, places this clock firmly within the better end of French Victorian production.
