17th Century Oyster Veneered Chest Of Drawers
Description
An exceptional and beautifully preserved chest, featuring richly figured oyster-cut yew wood veneers and refined geometric string inlay.
The rectangular top, sides and five drawer fronts are finely decorated with oyster veneers, arranged to emphasise the depth and movement of the grain. Delicate string inlay forms elegant lines and loops, adding understated decorative appeal.
The graduated arrangement comprises two short drawers over three long drawers, each retaining brass handles and escutcheons. The drawers have oak linings and traditional dovetail construction, reflecting the quality of English cabinetmaking.
Raised on bun feet and finished in a good golden-brown colour, the chest has developed a rich, patina with age. An elegant and practical piece, offering generous storage and increasingly rare decorative appeal.
