c. Circa 1890

A superb mahogany Gothic revival desk. Beautifully constructed, this desk stands on short cabriole legs with pad feet and castors. To either side of the knee-hole there are cluster columns, carved panels ( concealing drawers and sliding trays) and blind fretwork to the drawer fronts. The ends and back are further decorated with parquetry panels and fretwork. The top has a molded and banded edge and an inset vellum green leather writing surface with gilt and blind tooling. The desk also has a full compliment of working Bramah locks and two keys. A very high quality piece in terms of materials used and craftsmanship. In very good and original condition. 790mm high, 1090mm wide and 650mm deep. English. Circa 1890.

N.B. Illustrations of the desk can be seen in Chippendale's "The Gentleman & Cabinet-Maker’s Director" Third edition, plate 76.
