Antique English Figured Mahogany Extending Dining Table Twin Pillar 12 Seater Regency Style
Description
An antique English figured mahogany extending dining table in the Regency style built as a twin pillar design and seating up to twelve. The top has a rich colour with well matched grain and a clean rounded edge, set over two turned pedestal bases with elegant sabre legs.
The base is particularly well made with satinwood line inlay running down each leg and terminating in original brass caps and castors. The proportions are very good and give the table a balanced architectural look when extended.
Twin pillar tables were designed for flexibility in larger homes allowing sections to be added or removed depending on the number of guests. This made them ideal for formal dining rooms where entertaining was a regular part of daily life.
A very practical size offering three configurations from a compact closed table through to a full length 12 seater. A smart understated piece with good presence and classic Regency influence.
