Antique Georgian Mahogany Side Chairs Pair English
Description
A fine pair of antique Georgian mahogany side chairs with elegant proportions and beautifully shaped pierced splat backs. The splats are well drawn with flowing lines and a central interlaced design giving the chairs a refined decorative presence without being overworked.
Raised on square chamfered legs with supporting stretchers these chairs have a solid and practical construction typical of early 19th century English cabinetmaking. The rich mahogany has developed a warm attractive colour over time which adds to their overall appeal.
The drop-in seats are upholstered in a soft golden fabric which works well against the depth of the mahogany and can easily be recovered if a different look is desired.
Chairs of this type were used throughout Georgian homes in a variety of settings including hallways, bedrooms, drawing rooms and around occasional tables making them highly versatile pieces as well as decorative.
Condition
Good antique condition with age related wear as expected. Solid and sturdy with a pleasing colour and patina. Upholstery is very presentable.
