Antique Set of 10 Irish Mid 19th Century Carved Mahogany Dining Chairs Carvers Ball & Claw Feet
Description
A fine set of ten antique Irish mid 19th century carved mahogany dining chairs including two carvers, beautifully made in the Georgian taste with elegant proportions and excellent quality carving throughout. The shaped top rails with reeded detail lead down to finely pierced splat backs centred with carved shells and foliate decoration, a design strongly associated with Irish craftsmanship of the period.
The chairs stand on elegant cabriole legs terminating in well defined ball and claw feet, a classic sign of quality and skilled carving. The carvers have generous shaped arms with a smooth flowing line, designed for comfort at the head of the table while still maintaining the refined look of the set.
The drop-in seats are upholstered in a smart neutral striped fabric which works well in both traditional and modern interiors. Sets like this were made for formal dining rooms, offering both durability and style for long dinners and entertaining, and this example does exactly that while remaining practical for everyday use today.
Condition report
Very good antique condition with a rich deep colour to the mahogany. Minor age related marks as expected. Solid and sturdy throughout. The new upholstery is clean and ready for use.
