Antique Victorian English Walnut Wheel Barometer by G & L Guanziroli London
Description
A fine antique Victorian English wheel barometer by G & L Guanziroli of Hatton Garden London, housed in a beautifully figured walnut case with an elegant scroll-shaped top and base.
The silvered dial is finely engraved with a central starburst and traditional weather indicators including Rain Change and Fair, along with Stormy Set Fair and Very Dry. The original blued steel hand remains in place giving a crisp and decorative appearance.
Above the thermometer is set within a glazed panel allowing temperature to be read alongside atmospheric pressure. In the 19th century these instruments were both practical and decorative, typically displayed in hallways or studies to monitor weather changes for travel and daily life.
G & L Guanziroli were London based makers working from Hatton Garden, part of a group of skilled Italian craftsmen producing barometers in the Victorian period. Their work is known for its quality combining precise instruments with decorative cases.
The walnut case has a rich warm tone with contrasting darker edging showing the quality and craftsmanship expected of a London maker.
