Antique Victorian Mahogany Fold Over Tea Occasional Side Lamp Table with Concealed Storage Compartment
Description
A charming antique Victorian mahogany fold over tea occasional side lamp table dating from around 1880. Beautifully proportioned and exceptionally versatile, this elegant table was originally designed as a tea table but today is equally suited as an occasional table, side table or lamp table, making it a practical addition to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The beautifully figured D-shaped top folds open to create a circular surface, providing space for serving afternoon tea, displaying a table lamp or decorative objects. Beneath, the top lifts to reveal a concealed storage compartment neatly housed within the deep bow-fronted frieze. Retaining its original working lock and key, the compartment provides convenient storage for tea accessories, coasters, cutlery, correspondence or other small household items.
Raised on four elegant tapering legs terminating in traditional pad feet, the table displays the restrained elegance and fine craftsmanship associated with quality Victorian furniture. The rich mahogany has developed a beautiful warm colour and mellow patina over more than 160 years, enhancing the attractive grain and timeless appeal of the piece.
Compact in size yet highly practical, this delightful table would be equally at home in a drawing room, sitting room, hallway, bedroom or study, offering both decorative charm and useful concealed storage.
Condition
Excellent antique condition with age-related wear, marks and a beautiful mellow patina consistent with age and use. The table is solid and sturdy throughout, and the concealed storage compartment retains its original working lock and key.
