Exhibition Quality Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Kidney Shaped Side Table
Description
K0666 A magnificent and highly refined Edwardian mahogany kidney-shaped side table of exhibition quality, dating to circa 1900. The top features a spectacularly figured mahogany surface, masterfully decorated with a complex multi-wood inlay depicting a lute surrounded by other musical instruments and flowers, all bordered by cross-banding and fine string inlay. This sits above an elegantly shallow, matching inlaid frieze that accentuates the table's graceful, flowing proportions.
The table is elevated by four slender, masterfully turned and fluted legs featuring exquisite acanthus carving and ringed detailing. The legs terminate in their original, smooth-rolling solid brass castors and are firmly united by an elegant, sweeping double crinoline stretcher. Presented in home-ready condition, this versatile antique works beautifully as an entryway statement piece, a sophisticated lamp table, or a side table. c1900
