A fine and impressive George II Irish Armchair of the most fabulous glowing colour, made from the finest Mahogany. Having beautifully shaped splat and arms with carved scrolls to the tips. Standing on cabriole legs with claw and ball feet. In good original condition apart from a replaced scroll to the right edge of the top rail, all feet and ear pieces are original.

On Loan to The National Trust from The Society For The Preservation Of Ancient Buildings.

 

The Chair was bequeathed by Evelyn Fitzgerald Stannus to the S.P.A.B in 1939. It is a real possibility that the chair was made for William Stannus of Ghan house, Carlingford, Ireland.
