Description
Fine quality antiques George III figured mahogany writing box crafted from beautifully figured mahogany with a rich patina. The hinged lid opens to reveal a black leather writing surface adorned with elegant gilt tooling. Beneath the slope a fitted interior features compartments for writing accessories including two original inkwells and spaces for pens and quills.
A long side drawer accessible via a concealed release mechanism extends the functionality of the piece and showcases the meticulous craftsmanship of the period. The box retains its original brass swan-neck carrying handle and finely fitted brass hinges.
