George III Carved Giltwood Wall Mirror
circa 1760 - 1770
18th century period carved giltwood wall mirror.
To the top section, a centralised crisply carved upright leaf motif, surmounts inverted 'C' scrolls above opposing scrolls, flanked with open fret decorated icicles. The broad scrolled shoulders encasing deep cut overlapping leaf work. To the sides of the frame trailing oak leaves track down to the oak tree above smaller scrolled decoration.
The bottom section, or the apron, is worked from right to left with rock formations, open fret borders, 'C' scrolls of various sizes and detail to a reversed centralised motif that resembles the top.
The mirror is compact in scale, high quality and full of movement. The mirror plate is the original with some foxing but generally clear.
