George III Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase
A handsome late 18th-century George III mahogany secretaire bookcase of elegant proportions, retaining its original architectural presence and superb colour. The upper section features a striking swan-neck pediment with crisply carved rosettes and pierced fretwork, above a pair of astragal-glazed doors opening to adjustable shelves.
The lower section houses a beautifully fitted secretaire drawer, revealing an arrangement of satinwood-banded drawers, pigeonholes, and a central oval-inlaid cupboard, all fronted by a tooled green leather writing surface. Below are four long graduated drawers, each with its original turned knobs, offering excellent storage.
This is a classic example of Georgian craftsmanship, combining refined glazing, balanced proportions, and fine drawer construction in richly figured mahogany.
