Simply stunning Italian Renaissance Revival Walnut Hall Bench, with a breath-taking amount of carving to admire and appreciate. In what can only be described as a virtuoso performance from the artist that carved it, there is so much fine detail to see that it would take many hours of studying to see it all.
With a profusion of cherubs, creatures and floral forms, as well as extremely fine pierced carving in places it is a real work of art. With a lovely old finish, and a good deep colour, this bench would be the centrepiece of any room it was placed in.
There is some small evidence of old woodworm in places, as always in these old Walnut pieces, but it has long since been dead, and the piece has been treated for woodworm again as a further guarantee of eradication. The piece is structurally sound, and all ready to make a statement in its new environment.
