Louis XV Style Boulle Marquetry Card Table By Edwards & Roberts
A fine late 19th-century Louis XV style card table by the distinguished London cabinetmakers Edwards & Roberts. The serpentine top and frieze are beautifully inlaid with red tortoiseshell and brass Boulle marquetry of scrolling foliage and cherubs, bordered by ebony and framed with finely cast gilt-bronze mounts. The table opens to reveal its original vibrant red baize playing surface, framed by further Boulle marquetry. Standing on elegant cabriole legs with gilt sabots, this table exemplifies the luxurious craftsmanship for which Edwards & Roberts were renowned. Minor losses to the top, as photographed, do not detract from the overall appearance.
