Queen Anne Figured Walnut Bureau
Description
A fine early 18th-century Queen Anne figured walnut bureau of exceptional colour and rich patina, retaining its original brass locks throughout and original working key for the fall-front. The beautiful quarter-veneered flap is framed with feather banding and opens to reveal a superbly fitted interior with a central well, 11 pigeon holes, five small drawers and two concealed secret compartments. The writing surface is finished with a green tooled leather inset.
The bureau is fitted with two short over two long cockbeaded drawers, all with oak dovetailed linings, brass handles and escutcheons. Standing on shaped bracket feet, this is a beautifully proportioned bureau, displaying outstanding walnut figuring throughout.
