Victorian Carved Walnut Secretaire Bookcase
Description
A good quality mid/late Victorian period secretaire library bookcase. Well constructed in solid walnut and fitted with original solid brass hardware. The top section with 3 glazed doors which open to access a display space with adjustable shelving. The doors are fitted with original bevelled glass. The base section with a central serectaire flanked by two pairs of short drawers, all over 3 cupboard doors. The cupboard doors open to reveal shelved interiors. The secretaire opens to access the original leather writing surface, pigeon holes and stationary compartments fronted in burr maple. The bookcase is embellished with crisply carved decorations throughout. All original locks are present, working keys are supplied for all 3 glazed doors and 2 of the 3 cupboard doors. Offered for sale in very good original condition with a lovely colour and patina. With a shrinkage crack to the right hand side of the base section and some scuffs to the top of the base section (see photos). Splits into sections for ease of installation.
