18th Century Period Secretaire Bookcase
George III 18th century Thomas Chippendale period secretaire bookcase.
The cavetto cornice with a dentil moulded decoration sits above two astragal glazed doors that open to reveal three adjustable shelves. The shelves with moulded mahogany facings are original to the secretaire bookcase.
The secretaire fall opens to reveal an arrangement of drawers and pigeon holes with a central cupboard door concealing a secret hidden drawer. The solid highly figured mahogany cupboard door to the secretaire is vibrant and sets the tone for the understated quality which can often be seen in fine 18th century English furniture.
The secretaire drawer is fitted with the original gilt brass rococo style handles above a pair of figured mahogany panelled doors that open to reveal three original trays.
The low waisted bottom section to the bookcase is figured with flamed mahogany within the vertical and horizontal panels and raised on the original ogee bracket feet.
