A charming & large scale 19thC bronze group by Frederick Thomas Callcott (1854 – 11 May 1923). Depicting a mother with a child at her side carrying a book and a bag, and a baby in her arms. The bronze is very well modeled with fine detail and has good brown patination and is very heavy. 780mm high, 360mm wide and 230mm deep. Signed ''Fred Callcutt Londn 1889.

 

Callcott was responsible for some of the work in The Black Friar, Blackfriars.

 

In 1899, Callcott sculpted the memorial to the nine out of a crew of 13 who died in a failed rescue attempt by the boat ''Friend to all Nations'' in Margate in 1897.
