Antique Pair Italian Art Deco Specimen Marble Pietra Dura Decorative Objects
Description
A magnificent and highly unusual pair of antique Italian Art Deco decorative objects, beautifully modelled as monumental obelisks and dating to around 1920. Expertly crafted from polished black marble, each obelisk is richly decorated with exceptional pietra dura specimen stone inlay, creating a striking combination of classical architecture and early twentieth-century Art Deco design.
Each obelisk rises from a substantial stepped plinth and is adorned with intricate geometric panels composed of finely cut hardstones, including lapis lazuli, malachite, jasper, breccia marble, onyx and other colourful specimen stones. The vibrant mosaic-like inlays contrast beautifully against the polished black marble, creating a dramatic visual effect from every angle.
Inspired by the monumental obelisks of Ancient Egypt, these sculptural decorative objects were produced for the finest interiors during the Art Deco period. They beautifully combine the centuries-old Florentine tradition of pietra dura with the clean architectural lines and bold geometric styling that defined luxury Italian design during the 1920s.
Exceptionally versatile, they would make outstanding statement pieces displayed on a grand console table, flanking a fireplace, within a library, entrance hall or luxury interior. Their impressive scale, exceptional craftsmanship and architectural form make them highly sought after by interior designers seeking distinctive decorative objects with timeless appeal.
A rare and impressive pair offering exceptional decorative presence and outstanding craftsmanship.
Condition
Excellent antique condition and a beautiful polished finish. The specimen stone inlays remain vibrant and well preserved, and both obelisks display beautifully.
