French Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze & Porcelain Mantel Clock by Japy Freres
Description
A French Louis XVI style gilt bronze antique mantel clock from the late 19th century of very good quality. The case has acanthus leaf mouldings, female masks to the sides, laurel leaf garland and cascading flowers. There is fluted design to the sides, beaded detail and it stands on acanthus leaf toupie feet and it is surmounted with an urn and floral display.
The case has inset flat and rounded porcelain panels with finely painted flowers, musical instruments and male and female in traditional attire within a gilt and pink border.
The clock has a white porcelain dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and a French eight day duration movement which strikes the hours and half hours on a bell.
The back plate is stamped with the makers name -
