Victorian Ebonised Chinoiserie Chair
Description
Stamped ES to inside of frame.
This is a fine quality antique Victorian ebonised inlaid occasional chair, painted in the chinoiserie manner, decorated with stunning mother-of-pearl inlay and gold motifs, circa 1850, in good original condition. The chair boasts profuse mother-of-pearl inlay, depicting butterflies and flowers, and gilt foliate motif detail to the back, legs and seat frame. The chair comprises a shaped back, with central shaped vertical splat. The back connects on shaped supports to the seat frame. The seat retains its original canework, which is not missing any pieces and is very comfortable to sit on. The front of the seat frame features a serpentine design. The chair rests on cabriole legs to the front and sabre legs to the rear.
The chair boasts a black ebonised colour to the frames. As it boasts the original polish, the chair has a fantastic colour this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning it has received.
