Description
An exceptional William IV flame mahogany secretaire bookcase of elegant proportions. The upper section features a pair of glazed doors with striking geometric astragal glazing bars, opening to reveal adjustable shelving for books or display. Below, the lower section is fitted with a secretaire drawer, opening to a fitted interior with small drawers and pigeonholes, above three further graduated drawers. The whole is raised on boldly carved lion’s paw feet, a distinctive feature of the period. Crafted in richly figured flame mahogany with a superb colour and patina, this piece exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of the early 19th century.
