Antique Victorian Carved Walnut Spoon Back Slipper Chair
Description
An antique Victorian carved walnut spoon back slipper chair, dating to circa 1860, beautifully proportioned and displaying the elegant curves, elaborate carving and fine craftsmanship associated with fashionable Victorian drawing room furniture.
The wonderfully shaped, high spoon back features an impressive carved crest with scrolling foliage, complemented by decorative carved detailing that follows the sweeping contours of the walnut frame. The deeply buttoned backrest is upholstered in an attractive pale cream floral damask, creating a luxurious contrast against the rich, warm tones of the walnut.
The generously upholstered seat has a softly rounded front and is finished in matching cream floral damask, with decorative braid trimming the edges. The beautifully sculpted frame sweeps gracefully down towards the seat, creating the distinctive hourglass silhouette characteristic of these elegant Victorian chairs.
Standing on finely carved cabriole front legs terminating in original-style castors, with gently swept rear legs also fitted with castors, the chair combines decorative appeal with practical comfort.
Originally designed as an occasional chair for a Victorian drawing room or bedroom, this particularly attractive example would make a wonderful bedroom chair, dressing room chair, occasional lounge chair or statement accent chair. Its compact proportions make it especially suitable for a bedroom, dressing room, hallway or elegant living room.
A charming and highly decorative example of Victorian walnut seating, offering beautifully executed carving, graceful proportions and timeless period character.
