35 cmH × 29 cmW × 13.50 cmD
c. 1870

A late 19th century French Egyptian Revival brass and silver gilt mantel clock with excellent quality gilt bronze castings. The case is flanked with sphinx, tapering columns and urns, and it has a Saladin eagle to the centre of the plinth base. The case is surmounted with a pharaoh stood inside a clam shell holding a trident.

The inset delicately hand painted porcelain panels have themed landscape scenes, and they are framed with pyramid mouldings. The porcelain dial has Arabic numerals, and the clock has a French eight day duration movement, which strikes the hours and half hours on a bell.

The back plate is stamped with the makers name -

RC

Richard et Cie

The movement has been cleaned and serviced and comes with a 12 month guarantee.

Richard et Cie was established in Paris in 1848. They later opened premises in London at 24 Cannon Street in 1857 and were known as Richard & Co. They had workshops at Rue Bondy in Paris.
