Antique Victorian Scottish Mahogany Chest of Drawers, 19th Century Serpentine Scotch Dresser.
Description
A magnificent 19th-century Victorian Scottish mahogany chest of drawers (Scotch chest) featuring a beautifully contoured serpentine front and a deep upper cushion-moulded drawer. Crafted from high-quality flame mahogany veneer, the chest showcases an exceptional, rich grain pattern and excellent color consistency throughout.
Flanked by elegantly hand-carved scroll corbels, the configuration offers superb storage variation: two short drawers over three deep, graduated long drawers. Critically, this piece retains its original turned wooden handles with backing rings, adding immensely to its authentic charm and historical integrity.
All drawers feature robust traditional construction, remain structurally sound, and slide freely and smoothly.
There is a knot missing from the top ogee drawer, this does not effect the strength of the drawer base. All locks in place no keys. Age related split to the side due to the mahogany shrinking over 150 years. The top has had a repair from the 2 pieces of mahogany opening up. The back has had half replaced. The chest stand on a stand that has chipped veneer from being pushed against the walls over the years, then stands on bun feet.
