French Louis XV Style Chest of Drawers by E Kahn
Description
An outstanding French Louis XV style two drawer bombe and serpentine shaped antique chest of drawers commode by E Kahn with original Breche d'Alep marble top. The chest of drawers has striking satiné quarter veneers and is adorned with exceptional scrolling foliate bronze gilt ormolu mounts to the front and sides terminating to sabot feet on cabriole shaped legs.
The drawers have been re-lined in a red velvet interior. The lock is in full working order and is stamped:-

The original marble top has an old repair which has been expertly put back together at some time
Edmond Kahn - E Kahn et Cie produced and retailed models of the most opulent and renowned 18th century furniture after models by the likes of Riesener for example. From the 19th century through to the early 20th century they had premises in Paris at 84 avenue Ledru-Rollin in the 12th arrondissement and three premises in London at 6-10 St. Andrew St. and 18-21 Charlotte St where their furniture was retailed and a factory at 19-51 Gough St.
They also produced beautiful pieces of fashionable chinoiserie lacquered furniture. In London E Kahn & Co were known as "Manufacturers of Furniture and Upholstery, specialists in lacquered furniture, wholesale & export,"
