Description
A wonderfully decorative early 20th-century interior painting centred upon six mischievous Persian cats.
The animals occupy a richly coloured green tabletop. Grey kittens play inside a wicker basket at the left, two white cats command the centre, and another grey Persian appears from behind the floral teapot.
The composition has a particularly attractive rhythm, with alternating grey and white coats creating movement across the broad canvas.
Talboys combines carefully observed feline character with the visual richness of textiles, porcelain and basketware.
Decorative Character
At 89.5 cm wide in its frame, the painting has sufficient scale to act as a focal artwork while remaining suitable for domestic display.
Its muted historic palette and gilt frame lend themselves particularly well to traditional English, country house, maximalist and collected interiors.
